"You either adapted...or you got out."
If you don't know who Jason Coker is, then you aren't equipped to call yourself knowledgeable about the sport of powerlifting. Jason was notorious for his ballistic training style. A name etched in the archives of all time world records and synonymous with Westside Barbell - Jason was absolute hell on wheels.
He was known mostly for his all-time world records in the bench press.
900LBS BENCH PRESS
In 2014, he hit a 900 lbs multi-ply bench press at 195lbs bodyweight. However, he also had a colossal 1035lbs multi-ply squat at 217lbs bodyweight.
Coker was a multi-ply technician and put up big numbers on the platform while also living on the edge of the sport.
His tolerance for risk and discomfort is a testament to him belonging to a dying breed of powerlifter. He has dealt with injuries, imprisonment, and the wrath of Louie Simmons himself.
A man with a work-first attitude that stands in stark opposition to the instant gratification "viral at any cost" ideology of today. Jason Coker is the epitome of the hard-nosed, old-school mindset that cemented many lifters as legends in the sport.
Jason is a Westside legend, who embodied the high risk psychology needed to not only survive but thrive at the worlds most infamous hardcore gym Westside Barbell. His stubborn nature was a weapon to achieve legendary status in the sport. People like Jason helped build this sport, and it's people like him who we ought to thank for their sheer savagery and willingness to venture into unknown territiory for the sake of advancing the sport.
